The PTL difference

The Portable Traffic Light (PTL) range was designed with the latest Queensland Transport and Main Roads (TMR) technical specification MRTS264 in mind and therefore currently exceeds any other Type 1 portable traffic signaling system on the market. Compare the PTL to other brands using the table below and learn what our customers have to say about using PTL.

What customers say

“PTL’s portable traffic light system is a far superior product to anything on the market. The handheld controller tells you everything you need to know and is easy to operate, plus it keeps me and my workers safe by taking us off the roadside, an excellent alternative to the STOP/SLOW bats. Madison Technologies was there every step of the way in supporting the product and our needs.” – Altus Traffic

How we compare

Portable Traffic Light featuresPortable Traffic Light benefitsHow is this different to our competitors?
Portable Traffic Light (PTL) is approved as MRTS264 Type-1 Portable Traffic Signals by Queensland Transport and Main Roads and Main Roads Western Australia.Safe for use in QLD and WA and other states not requiring approval on public and private roadsNone of PTL's competitors currently have full approval for latest specifications from Queensland Main Roads.
PTL has a stable and robust base structure. Created with zinc plated steel with a X15 orange powder coated finish. Designed for durability and a longer life.PTL's competitors are built with an aluminum frame, and while very lightweight, are not as durable or stable as a result.
PTL tripod has a wide footprint with extendable legs.Greater stability on uneven terrain. Also allows for one leg to be extended fully and in a gutter while the others are on level ground. PTL's competitors' tripods have narrow footprints, often have fixed legs that don't adjust to the terrain and require lots of ballast/sand bags
PTL with QTML, has a quick fit target board which is wind-load rating compliant. Target board improves visibility by a factor or 2x, and can be attached with ease within seconds. A high value safety feature.None of PTL's competitors have met requirements for selling a compliant target board as an accessory.
PTL batteries last 20+ hours and are hot-swappable. HRC runtime is +20hrs if fully charged.PTSU's can change power supply without disrupting operation. PTL's competitors' PTSU's need to be shutdown to change battery and last 25% less time.
PTL Handheld Remote Control (HRC) has an LCD screen with back light.HRC provides a great user experience with a number different screens to guide the operator and alert to faults and warnings. PTL's competitors only use LED flash sequences to guide users on functions or offer very simple screen interactions.
PTL offers system status information and alert mechanisms on the HRC screen. PTL includes GPS, tilt, and directional sensors to set off alarms to notify operator and fail safe to red light phase. PTL competitors often don't have directional sensors and the user is not able to instantly identify or diagnose alerts.
PTL is designed with a range of interlocks to manage operational and compliance issues. PTL operators can access system information such as battery status, run-time and paired devices. Our competitors are not able to offer real-time data system for user notifications.
